The TeithThe Teith is a classic grade I - III (easy III) lazy paddle that'll eat away your time on the river as you take in the great sights and scenery of the surrounding areas.

Or, if you are a coach and taking a group of boaters down it'll provide you with great water features from small waves, eddy lines and nice places to hold your group up to coach away.

There are loads of nice spots to stop and have lunch or read a book on a nice warm day.

The map, on the left, shows Callander on the A84, that's your get in. The car park at grid NN 625 079. Middle (ish) of the town, near the water, and loads of ice cream shops!

Getting on at Callander car park, if the water is as high as the wooden boards and coming on to the path, it'll be a nice level. If the waters coming up to the wall, in the car park, great! However if it's about 0.5 meters below the top of the wooden boards, it'll still be good but a bit scrappy!

Once on the river you'll quickly pass under a major road bridge then a smaller bridge. It's all easy water, at this point, about grade I. Long stretch's of grade II follow with the river never reaching more than an easy III. The river will sweep right and left.
The next marker you'll pass is where the Keltie water joins at grid NN 650 048, you can see this on the map above. There will be a big rock feature coming up soon in the middle of the water. It's good to break in and out here. Watch out as the eddy line is a bit strong and there are a load of trees down stream of this for the novice to get caught up in. Best to go river right here.

The river continues to the largest rapid on the river, Torrie, not much than a grade III, if that. You'll see some slack water on the river right, leading up to this, and the river taking sweeping left turn, this is the best place to gather the group and have a look from the boat. It's easy enough, taking the river left line through some waves. After Torrie, about 800 meters on the left is the first get out at grid NN 669 044. Walking up the bank takes you to the road and a 30 meter walk back up the road takes you to the car park. WATCH THE ROAD!!!

If you want, continue down the river for another hour or so for some similar water as you have just paddled. All the way to Deanston.

You'll pass under another bridge at grid NN 730 026. Pass this you'll come to a visible build up of water that will be flat and you'll see a horizon line!

This is Deanston weir! Get out river right and have a look!!!

The WeirThe weir is easy enough if your a grade III paddler. However, watch out for the fish ladder, pictured with the BIG RED ARROW. If you catch this on your boat or as a swimmer, it'll win!

That said it's easy peasy. Follow the black line down about 2 meters away from the ladder and punch the hole at the bottom. Job done!

The weir is run with kayaks and canoes. For those that are new to the game. Walk this and get on the bottom, river right.

The get out is just a short distance away from here at the Waste Disposal Plant (nice) at grid NN 713 018. Some wire baskets and the waste building should give this away on the river right.
